Great music has a way of bringing people together. It turns a quiet afternoon into a moment worth remembering, gives a weekend adventure its own soundtrack, and makes an ordinary get-together feel a little more special.
The right portable speaker should make those moments easier to enjoy. It needs enough power to fill a shared space, sound that works for different kinds of music, and the durability to keep up when the setting changes.
Meet the TRIBIT StormBox Max, a portable Bluetooth speaker designed to bring powerful 60W audio, immersive 360° sound, adjustable bass, and dependable outdoor protection into one compact design. Whether you're hosting friends on the patio, heading out for a weekend getaway, or winding down with your favorite playlist, StormBox Max is built to make music part of the experience.
The TRIBIT StormBox Max is a 60W portable Bluetooth speaker with 360° sound, an adjustable XBass 2.0 knob, up to 20 hours of playtime, IP68 protection, Bluetooth 6.0, TWS stereo pairing and Auracast. It costs $129.99 in black or white.

True 360° Sound: How It Works
Many portable speakers aim most of their sound forward, so the music changes as you walk around them. The StormBox Max is built to spread it across a full circle instead.
- Four silk dome tweeters (7.5W each): arranged in a 90° array, so each one covers about a quarter of the circle. A custom sound reflection cone sends the highs outward in every direction.
- Downward-firing neodymium woofer (30W): drives the low end into the surface beneath the speaker. The frequency response is 53Hz to 20kHz.
That layout suits a table in the middle of a group, where nobody sits directly in front.
Placement tip: because the woofer fires down, the surface matters. A solid table or a concrete patio works with it. Soft grass or sand, or pushing the speaker into a shelf or against a wall, can muddy or soften the low end.
XBass 2.0: Bass Tuning You Can Reach With One Hand
Presets can be frustrating. What suits a hip-hop track can swamp a podcast or an acoustic ballad. The StormBox Max puts XBass 2.0 on a physical knob on the speaker, so you can change the bass without opening an app.
How the knob works: it moves through ±5 steps from center, and each step changes the bass by 1.25 dB. One click is subtle, so turn it two or three steps to hear a clear difference. The knob only affects bass, so a track with little low end will barely react.
A good fit for podcasts, spoken word and quiet listening.
A balanced setting for everyday playlists.
More impact for hip-hop, electronic music and outdoor gatherings.
In our acoustic lab tests, XBass 2.0 delivers more low-end depth and impact than our earlier XBass 1.0 tuning. A separate EQ button switches between TRIBIT Signature (light off) and Outdoor (light on).
IP68 Ruggedness and 20-Hour Power for Long Days
A real outdoor speaker needs to handle more than a few light drops of rain.
IP68 Protection
The StormBox Max is rated IP68 and SGS certified under lab conditions. The 6 means dust-tight against sand and dirt. The 8 means rated for continuous immersion, with the depth and time set by the manufacturer.
Note: the rating only holds when the rubber port cover is sealed shut. Keep the USB-C port and cable dry before you plug in. IP68 does not make the speaker indestructible.
Battery and Emergency Power
- Playtime: up to 20 hours at 50% volume with the default EQ (our lab test, normal temperature).
- Charging: about 4 hours over USB-C with a 5V/3A (15W) charger.
- Power bank out: a USB-C output (5V/1A, 5W) tops up a phone in a pinch when you are away from an outlet.
- Auto shut-off: the speaker powers down after 15 minutes without audio input.
Bluetooth 6.0, TWS Stereo and Auracast Multi-Speaker Setup
The StormBox Max uses Bluetooth 6.0 for a stable connection up to 150 ft (45 m), with AAC and SBC codec support. When one speaker is not enough, you have two ways to expand your setup:
- True Wireless Stereo (TWS): links two StormBox Max speakers into a left/right stereo pair, for wider sound on a patio or in a large room.
- Auracast: one source broadcasts the same audio to every speaker in the group, which suits big backyards where you want the same music in every corner. It supports 100+ speakers.
- Switching modes: press the TWS button once for TWS (white light) or twice for Auracast (blue light). To change modes, hold the TWS button for 2 seconds to exit the current one first.
- Compatibility note: The StormBox Max pairs only with the same model, so it will not link to other TRIBIT speakers. Auracast is an open Bluetooth standard, so speakers from other brands that support it may be able to join, but compatibility varies by device.
- App and calls: the TRIBIT app (iOS and Android) offers 6 preset EQs, a 9-band equalizer, ±6 dB gain control and a custom EQ. A built-in mic handles hands-free calls and voice assistant activation.

Why Choose the StormBox Max Over Others?
- Over the JBL Charge 6: higher rated output (60W against 45W RMS), Bluetooth 6.0 against 5.4, and a lower price today ($129.99 against $149.95). The Charge 6 plays longer, 24 hours or 28 with Playtime Boost.
- Over the UE Megaboom 4: IP68 against IP67, 60W of listed output, and $70 less. The Megaboom floats and links 150+ speakers through the UE app.
- Over the Soundcore Boom 3i: longer playtime (20 hours against 16), Bluetooth 6.0 against 5.3, Auracast support, and a charge-out port for your phone. The Boom 3i is lighter at 780 g, floats and lists at $94.99 on Amazon, and SoundGuys lists only stereo pairing and no power bank output for it.
Prices change often, so check each product page before you buy.
Limitations and Honest Trade-Offs
A few things to know before you buy:
- Weight: at 2.61 lb (1,184 g) with a silicone handle, it is solidly built but heavier than a pocket-size speaker.
- Codecs: the StormBox Max supports AAC and SBC. It does not support aptX or LDAC.
- Phone charging: the charge-out port delivers 5W (5V/1A). It keeps a phone alive but is not a fast-charging power bank.
- Pairing: TWS works only with another StormBox Max, and cross-brand Auracast depends on the other speaker.
- Playtime: the 20-hour figure is at 50% volume with the default EQ, while the JBL Charge 6 lists 24 hours.

TRIBIT StormBox Max FAQ
What is the TRIBIT StormBox Max?
The TRIBIT StormBox Max is a 60W portable Bluetooth speaker with 360° sound, an adjustable XBass 2.0 knob, up to 20 hours of playtime, IP68 protection, Bluetooth 6.0, TWS stereo pairing and Auracast.
What makes the StormBox Max different from traditional portable speakers?
Many portable speakers aim their sound forward. The StormBox Max uses four tweeters in a 90° array, a reflection cone and a downward-firing woofer to spread 60W of sound around a full circle. It also has a physical XBass 2.0 knob for adjusting bass without an app.
How many watts is the TRIBIT StormBox Max?
The StormBox Max has 60W of total rated output: a 30W neodymium woofer plus four 7.5W silk dome tweeters. The woofer fires downward, and the tweeters sit in a 90° array for 360° coverage.
How long does the StormBox Max play on one charge?
Up to 20 hours with the default EQ at 50% volume, based on our lab tests at normal temperature. A full charge takes about 4 hours over USB-C with a 5V/3A charger.
Is the StormBox Max waterproof?
It is rated IP68 and SGS certified under lab conditions. The rubber cover over the ports must be sealed for that protection to apply, and the charging port and cable should be dry before you plug in.
How do I connect two StormBox Max speakers?
Press the TWS button once for stereo (white light) or twice for Auracast (blue light). In TWS, one speaker plays left and the other plays right. In Auracast, both play the same audio. To change modes, hold the TWS button for 2 seconds first, then choose the other mode.
Can the StormBox Max pair with other speakers?
Not with other TRIBIT models. The StormBox Max pairs only with the same model. Auracast is an open Bluetooth standard, so other brands' speakers with Auracast may be able to join, but compatibility varies by device, so check the other speaker's specs first.
Why can't I hear the XBass 2.0 knob working?
The knob only changes bass, so songs with little low end show less change. Each step is 1.25 dB, so turn it several steps to hear the difference.
Can I adjust the bass on the StormBox Max?
Yes. A physical XBass 2.0 knob on the speaker adjusts the bass in ±5 steps of 1.25 dB each, from a light, subtle profile up to deep, powerful bass.
Does the StormBox Max support aptX or LDAC?
The StormBox Max supports AAC and SBC. It does not support aptX or LDAC.
Can the StormBox Max charge my phone?
Yes, through the USB-C charge-out port at up to 5V/1A (5W). Treat it as an emergency top-up rather than a fast charge.
Does the StormBox Max have an app and custom EQ?
Yes. The TRIBIT app for iOS and Android offers 6 preset EQs, a 9-band equalizer, ±6 dB gain control and a custom EQ.
