Firmware Update · V11.0 / V9.5
This one's different.
When you hit play after this update, there's a good chance your first reaction will be: "Wait — this actually sounds better."
That's exactly what we were going for.
Why We Did This
Over the past few months, we've been going through your reviews and feedback carefully. Most of you love the StormBox Blast 2 — the power, the dynamics, the sheer presence of it. But a few things kept coming up:
Bass hits hard, but I want more separation.
Vocals feel a bit muffled — they could be clearer.
Mic latency when I'm singing — can that be lower?
Custom EQ feels a bit limited.
So instead of a small patch, we went back and properly reworked three core areas: sound, EQ, and microphone. Here's exactly what changed.
Sound — Not Just Louder. More Controlled.
This is the biggest part of the update.
The previous firmware (V8.6 / V7.4) already delivered serious energy. But push the volume hard enough, and things started to strain. High frequencies got a little tight. Bass lost some definition. Instruments and vocals started competing for the same space.
Here's what we fixed.
Recalibrated Timbre
The old tuning leaned toward exciting and punchy. The new tuning leans toward natural and detailed — in a way that holds up better over time.
Vocals sit in a clearer position now. The kick drum and bass don't blur together. You can hear more of what's actually in the recording.
If you listen to pop, rock, live recordings, or anything with a lot of vocal presence, you'll notice this right away.
Rebuilt Dual DSP Processing Chain
The StormBox Blast 2 runs two DSP chips to handle its 200W output. We restructured how they work together.
The result: less distortion at high volumes, a wider dynamic range, and a sound that feels more like it's breathing — rather than being pushed out by force.
Added Dynamic EQ
Many speakers use a fixed bass boost to make low volumes sound more impressive. But as you push the volume higher, that boosted low end starts eating into the available dynamic headroom — the sound gets muddy, the bass feels compressed, and vocals and detail start to disappear underneath it.
To fix this, we built Dynamic EQ into the new firmware.
At low volumes, the system intelligently enhances bass extension to compensate for the natural way human ears perceive low frequencies at quieter levels — making the sound feel fuller and more immersive. As the volume increases, Dynamic EQ progressively reduces that low-frequency boost, freeing up more dynamic range and reducing distortion and compression.
In practice, that means:
Bass stays rich, full, and present
Sound stays open, clear, and impactful
Great sound isn't about pushing bass hard at all times. It's about staying natural, balanced, and dynamic — no matter where the volume dial is.
Custom EQ — More Room to Play
We heard that. In V11.0 / V9.5, we expanded the frequency range and opened up the gain adjustment, giving you more room at both ends.
What that means in practice:
- Deeper, heavier bass if that's your thing
- Brighter, more forward vocals
- A proper V-curve for hip-hop or electronic music
- A smoother, more relaxed curve for late-night listening
If you're the type who likes to tune a speaker to your taste rather than just use presets, this update gives you a lot more to work with.
X-3D Got a Rework Too
Some of you felt the X-3D surround mode sounded a little over-processed — like an effect rather than a space.
We updated the spatial algorithm. It's still wide, but now it sounds more like the room opened up and less like a filter got applied. Better for movies, live recordings, and gaming.
Microphone — Tighter, Cleaner, No More Squealing
If you use the StormBox Blast 2 for karaoke, outdoor gatherings, or anything involving a mic — this section is for you.
The gap between speaking or singing and hearing yourself is noticeably shorter. Makes a real difference when you're trying to stay on beat.
More natural — adds presence without sounding like you turned on a processing mode.
That sudden, ear-splitting squeal when the mic gets too close? Anti-Howling Boost is specifically designed to stop that. It works.
For when you need more presence and volume from the mic without cranking everything else up.
